[Comment] Calorie restriction in an obesogenic environment: reality or fiction?

Calorie restriction has long been considered a potential solution to achieving a healthy weight and promoting long-term health and longevity. Experimental studies in animals have shown that calorie restriction, defined as a sustained reduction in food and calorie intake less than ad libitum without inducing malnutrition, is effective in extending a healthy lifespan and slowing the ageing process.1 However, the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of long-term sustained calorie restriction in non-obese humans has not been rigorously investigated.
